| Name: | Edward Elric |
|---|---|
| Birthdate: | 05-11 |
Personality: To quote Ed's Year One school report;
"Edward is anobnoxious outgoing young man, who, despite being a midget rather small for his age (and rather paranoid sensitive of the fact), shows no hesitation in shouting a lot asserting himself in the face of his peers. He is hyperactive chaotic a pain in the ass lively and precocious highly intelligent, with a quick mind. Edward shows great scope for troublemaking tenacity, when he deems his goal to be worthwhile. Yet he is also prone to sit around doing nothing lack application and motivation in classwork which is not dangerous, messy and/or explosive enough does not interest him. Therefore, despite his high level of capability, his work is often bad slapdash and scrawled out in ten minutes before break, having spent the entire morning chatting hastily completed.
Edward has undertaken several new tasks this term and currently endeavours to learn to colour inside the lines, something which he finds difficult, but approaches withbloody-mindedness vigour."
To everyone's exasperation, and the frequent consternation of his sister, nothing much has changed. Including the colouring.
His heart is, however, in much the right place and despite many of his... shortcomings, he would do anything to protect those whom he cares about. His younger sister, Alphonse, is one of these people and whilst not an emotionally-expressive person (his frequent angry outbursts and fiery personality are an exception), Ed is always gentle towards her. He regards her as his responsibility in many ways and has assumed an interesting attitude towards her; part paternally protective and part bossy older brother. The two are still very close, and this only makes Ed even more reluctant to move from his aunt's house and find his own home and a job.
Background: Edward has had to contend with losing both parents at an early age. When he was just four years old his father was diagnosed with a rare and progressive disease. In a spectacular display of flawed logic the man proceeded to abandon Ed, Al (who was then just three) and their mother- Trisha- and travelled the world in search of a cure in order to gain more time with his family.
The stress of raising two young children alone was simply too much for Trisha who, despite the single-mindedness and determination Ed later proved to have inherited, had never been physically strong. In the early summer of Ed's sixth year she fell ill, and was interred the following spring. Their father never rematerialised and was presumed to have died many miles from home, despite his children’s' best efforts to find and contact him. A heavy barrage of letters was sent to anybody with whom Hohenheim was known to have corresponded, but few replied and those that did were apologetic and negative.
Ed and Al were sent to live with their aunt, Pinako, in a neighbouring village. Firm but fair, she took it upon herself to raise her nephew and niece and admittedly they flourished under her care. The siblings (who showed promise from an early age) were trained privately by a local magie in the evenings, a decision which would provide Ed with both his raison d'etre, and with two prosthetic limbs following a particularly disasterous experiment in an abandoned quarry one bored summer holiday. He has recovered and adapted well, although to this day he refuses to expound upon the true nature of his failed test. To the dismay of his aunt and sister, he is probably even more cavalier with his own safety for the experience.
He and Al both attended the village school in addition to studying magic and later enrolled in high school in the nearest town. Al is now in her final year there, while Ed astonished everyone last year just by actually managing to graduate. In true Elric style he even managed to pull off a set of quite remarkable grades, proving once again that if Ed does do something then he does it well.
However for the past ten months he has been doing very little with his life, unwilling as he is to find a job and even more unwilling to move into his own flat. Pinako is becoming irritated and worried about him in equal measures and in an attempt to force him to stop freeloading and make a life for himself, has promised to throw him out on his eighteenth birthday if he does not find himself his own accommodation by then. It is unlikely that Ed doubts her resolve, but still he doesn't seem too worried by this. Perhaps he will in three weeks' time...
